Your Exec

Your Exec consists of six sabbatical officers elected by you to lead the Students' Union, and represent you on a local and national level.

They are assisted in their work by over 30 part-time elected student officers who campaign on various issues and ensure that the student voice is being heard.

Sabbatical Team 2009/2010

Top Row: Owen, Louise, James / Bottom Row: Amy, Ruth, Emma

President

Owen Peachey

ubu-president@bristol.ac.uk

0117 954 5864

As your Union President I represent you to the University, at a local level and at a national level. I lobby and campaign for improvements to student life here at Bristol and student life nationally in terms of education and student experience.

Vice-President Welfare & Equality

Ruth Jackson

ubu-welfare@bristol.ac.uk

0117 954 5881

I co-ordinate welfare campaigns such as mental health awareness, celebration of diversity and Revise (helping you relax during the exam period). I also represent you to the University on a wide range of welfare and equality issues - from personal safety, drugs, sexual and mental health, finance, disability and everything in between.

Vice-President Education

Emma Di Iorio

ubu-education@bristol.ac.uk

0117 33 13508

I'll be working over the coming year to campaign on the educational issues you feel strongly about as well as representing you on various university committees. My remit includes everything education-related, from
fees to widening participation, to contact-hours. Over the coming year I'll be running campaigns on Higher Education funding, hidden course costs, library resources, but to name a few.

Vice-President Activities

Amy O'Brien

ubu-activities@bristol.ac.uk

0117 954 5865

As VP Activities, it's my job to ensure that each and every one of you finds the perfect activity to fill your spare time, and with over 160 societies, 37 SCA volunteering projects, our hugely successful fundraising group, RAG, and student media groups including the Epigram paper, Burst radio and Screentest Film Festival, there's plenty to choose from! Getting involved in Union activities is an ideal way to meet like-minded people and relax in your free time, but could also prove to be the cherry on top of a great CV that lands you the perfect job!

Vice-President Sport and
Health

Louise Shelton

ubu-sport@bristol.ac.uk

0117 954 5874

Hi All! I'm Louise and as your Union VP: Sport and Health, I oversee the running of all sports clubs, organise key sporting events such as the Varsity Series , Sports Nights and the Sports Awards Dinner as well as working on one of the biggest intramural "interuniversity" sport for all initiatives in the country. I will also work to promote healthy living at university, and provide opportunities for volunteering and organising coaching courses to enhance the student experience. Furthermore I work as part of the Sabbatical team to represent all students on any issues or problems being faced.

Vice-President Community

James Ashton-Bell

ubu-community@bristol.ac.uk

0117 33 13516

My job is concerned with any aspect of student life that exists outside of the university. Everything from housing concerns to environmental campaigns fall under my remit; because the Union acknowledges that what goes on in the city, and the world around us, is of the utmost importance. During the course of the year I'll be working on a variety of issues like landlord feedback, recycling awareness in the halls and in student houses, as well as engagement with the upcoming general election. I spend my spare time lobbying for your interests with various community structures, like the Bristol City Council.
